KUWAIT: In a statement issued yesterday, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah stated that he will stand to face the grilling motion filed by three lawmakers and refute their allegations. The embattled premier made his statement in an interview with a local daily on Monday, the same day that the parliament approved a cabinet request to delay the grilling debate until next week. The parliament was yesterday set to debate the grilling motion filed by MPs Walid Al-Tabtabaei, Mohammad Hayef and Mubarak Al-Waalan which concerns allegations that the government adopted a foreign policy favoring Iran at the expense of other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, thus harming national security.

The premier requested that the debate be postponed to the next session, however, with the request being approved. "The redundancy of grilling motions is causing this constitutional tool to lose its goals", HH Sheikh Nasser told Al-Rai. The premier insisted that he "welcomes" the opportunity to rebut the allegations included in the grilling motion. "We are confident in Kuwait's foreign policy which have been adopted for sixty years ever since His Highness the Amir first placed its principles", the PM added.HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed did not give any specific date for when he intends to face the grilling debate, saying that this will be decided by "the readiness of the team assigned to prepare the responses." He also reiterated his right to request a two-week delay for the debate.
