KUWAIT: Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar said yesterday the ministry plans to set up factories under the build, operate and transfer (BOT) system for the recycling of solid waste.This came in a press statement of the organizing committee for the 4th Kuwait conference and exhibition for waste management and recycling organized by the PRIMEDIA Company, which will kick off on Oct 18.

The minister said consultancy studies were being prepared with respect to the rehabilitation of closed landfill sites, in addition to preparing a booklet of the terms of reference for the establishment of a factory for recycling used tires and implementation of a consultancy study in collaboration with the World Bank to develop a method of waste management in the municipality of Kuwait, according to modern scientific methods. He pointed to the completion of tenders for household and solid waste, expecting this matter to be completed early next year. He also noted the introduction of new and advanced environmental element on the collection of waste and cleaning that take into account the wages of workers, monitoring and follow-up mechanisms of sorting out waste
