KUWAIT: A senior Kuwaiti foreign ministry official yesterday lauded the "close, sisterly and mutually beneficial" ties between Kuwait and Iraq. "We are fully confident that our brothers in Iraq are as keen as us on further enhancing bilateral ties," added Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Khalid Al-Jarallah.Although they are not official, some voices in Iraq seek to mar these neighborly ties," he continued, expressing hope that such hostile remarks would fail to have any impact on "the essence of the relationship" between the two countries. Al-Jarallah was speaking on the sidelines of a reception held by the Italian Embassy in Kuwait to mark the 150th anniversary of Italian unification. Iraqi government officials are sensible and responsible in their remarks but unfriendly statements appear from time to time in Iraqi press and parliament," explained the foreign ministry official. Asked about the dispute between the Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) and its Iraqi counterpart, Al-Jarallah said: "This is a commercial subject that was referred to the courts. The two corporations [will be] able to settle the issue once and for all through the enforcement of the relevant court rulings.
