KUWAIT: The Kuwait Teachers Association has flatly rejected the idea of holding any kind of strike action in order to achieve its demands for payment of the recently approved increase in salaries for teachers, which was endorsed in the National Assembly (parliament) during a recent session. In a press release issued yesterday, the KTA stated that a strike under the current conditions, especially in the period at the start of student’s exams would wholly contradict teachers' mission and the ethics of the educational profession. The association's message stated that KTA members are currently involved in talks about the salary increases through a number of official channels, including the joint parliamentary education committee and the Education Minister Ahmad Al-Mulaifi. During these discussions, the KTA members have explained the reasons for the reservations about the decisions taken on the issue by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), as well as over the regulations introduced by the education minister, the statement said, saying that these contradict the association's goals and its philosophy.
