KUWAIT: Kuwait has sufficient water supplies to cover the expected demand through the summer period, according to a Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) official, who added that despite the searing heat of Kuwait's summers, processing levels at local desalination facilities remain the same.In a statement released on Monday, after Sunday's temperatures hit 48 degrees Celsius (118Fahrenheit), the official said that the desalination plants' production levels continue to far exceed consumption rates, despite the summer heat.

The ministry's water production reached over 407,000 gallons per day at the beginning of the week, while consumption reached approximately 393,000 gallons," said the official, adding that the total volume of the state's strategic water supply as of Sunday stood at 2,596,597 gallons.Speaking on condition of anonymity, the ministry insider also asserted that the chances of power cuts this summer are "very slim," following the introduction of new electricity generating equipment at the Subbiya power plant. The official revealed that the highest power consumption level for Sunday reached 9,850 megawatts.
