Price up by 20%, demand shifts to baqalas, other supermarket

KUWAIT: Cooperative Societies have stopped stocking certain brands of cigarettes after suppliers raised the prices without justification. The move came after suppliers increased the price per packet of cigarettes by 100 fils or approximately 20 percent. An official at the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies (UCCS) said that the societies took the decision to stop stocking these cigarette brands after a cigarette supplying company in Kuwait decided to raise the prices without complying with the UCCS' RuLes.This particular company which supplies different brands was striking deals with each Co-op, setting different prices for each area without prior studying," he said.
