A group of Kuwaiti women have filed for divorce after discovering their husbands spent a New Year’s Eve partying in Lebanon, while claiming they were performing Umrah in Mecca, local daily Gulf News reported citing a lawyer.“At the beginning of this year, 33 Kuwaiti women contacted me to file for divorce after they discovered that their husbands who said that they were on a spiritual trip to Mecca to perform Umrah in Saudi Arabia went in fact to Lebanon to celebrate New Year’s Eve,” the paper quoted the Kuwaiti lawyer Abdullah al-Shibani as saying.“Many husbands cause the end of their marriages by cheating and lying to their wives,” the lawyer added. According to the report, religious leaders have been calling for greater awareness about the importance of marriage amid a surging rate of divorce in the Gulf emirate.
